July 2004 saw Valentine Records' first new release in twelve months. The Complete Guide To Spacefolk was writer/artist/producer/musician Porl Henty's first release for the label and came in the form of a twenty-three minute introduction to the strange and wonderful world of his future-imperfect alter ego Lynskey. In Porl’s own words:
'Luke Haines, Morr Music, Clive Barker, Biros, Boats, Cats and The Cure. Dark Blues, David Cronenberg, John Cale and Max Tundra. Lali Puna and Twin Peaks, MBV and Squarepusher, Time Travel and William Burroughs - Imagine John Cale’s Music for a New Society – but uprooted and re-fashioned for the 21st century'.
Although the EP was Porl's first official release in his own right, he's already notched up an impressive string of production credits including the debut Shirokuma LP (Faith and Hope), I-Node (Valentine) and Monkey Steals The Drum (Shifty Disco). Hailing from the rural/surreal surroundings of Stalybridge and/or Ormskirk, much of Porl’s music is conceived (or at least plucked from the sky) from within his home-made studio 'the Maze'.
