As
a multi-instrumentalist, under the moniker Hypnotique
I have worked on a variety of musical collaborations as group
member, guest musician, and soloist.
Current Projects
Babyslave
Babyslave are a music and performance art micro-collective
in an industrial tradition who take inspiration from the work
of Marcel Duchamp, William Burroughs and Luigi Russolo.
Babyslave is an ongoing collaboration between Valentine Records
former chief antagonist Joe Ladyboy and Lunette Records'
artist-in-residence Hypnotique. Originally meeting
in 1994 among the cathedrals and mills of the rural East Midlands
and united by their disaffection with the juvenile and vulgar
around them - they embarked on varied musical missions throughout
the latter stages of the 20th Century.
United again in 2006, this mission was to throw their varied
skills and styles into a test tube, add hubble+bubble+toil+trouble,
allow to mutate, then enjoy. Hypnotiques analogue obsession
and classical woodwind sounds create a unique reaction with
Joes loop and groove licks, samples and electro production.
A concoction of instant gratification - William Burroughs
Naked Lunch as musical hors douvres.

Hypnotique and Paul Vickers on tour |
|
Hypnotique
first became involved with the Scottish borders town mavericks
in 2000 when she toured with their alter ego electronic
project Pluto Monkey. She was wearing Val Piriou,
they were wearing tinsel (it was the festival season)
and playing with a Mini Disc called Susie. Hypnotique
suggested she could do a better job and thus the blessed
union was born. She has since infused her vocal/ wind/
electronic/ tinkle bells stardust on several recording
projects including the albums "Touching the Propellor"
(2002) and "Pterodactyl" (2004), and
her husky dominatrix tones have graced songs like the
2002 single "Smoke Without Fire" and
the self penned "Arctic Sails" duet with
Replicant Paul Vickers - a vocal fusion of gravel grit
and chocolately silk. She has recorded sessions for Radio
6, XFM and John Peel with the 5 piece group
as well as touring the UK.

Previous Projects
Rhythmicon
Rhythmicon, formed in 2003, is the head on
fusion of two disparate musical forces - electronic guru and
founder of Earthrid Records Carya Amara, who has been
creating inspired, disturbing and wholesomely original 'syncategoric'
music since the early 1980's which side steps genres from
hard techno to electro-acoustic diffusions. Hypnotique brings
to the table her unique brand of poised yet frenzied virtuoso
performance to create live shows combining live instruments
with electronic processing and diffusions which have left
audiences with an itch in their eyeballs and a tingle in their
earlobes. Rhythmicon
are currently in the process of recording their debut album.

Heist
Hypnotique toured extensively during 2001 with London's cinematic
heroes and Ostalgie officiandos Heist - complementing their
line up with her Klezmer-esque clarinet, fairground organs
and spiralling theremin. Events included a Trabi Car Festival
in Leipzig, former East Germany, and shows in Belgium, France,
Switzerland and Berlin.
The
Radio Science Orchestra
Hypnotique was invited to perform with fellow thereminist
Bruce Woolley and his magical Radio Science collective
at an event titled 'The Magic of the Theremin' at the
Electric Cinema, Notting Hill, London in October 2002. She
performed theremin duets and solos with electric harp as well
as giving a monologue as legendary thereminist, Clara Rockmore.
Zorch
Basil Brooks and Gwyo Zepix, the keyboard section of Pyscaedelic
band Gong, invited Hypnotique to join Zorch, the first
ever British synthesizer duo, to conduct her ether magic at
a crystal light generated show at Glastonbury Assembly Rooms
to celebrate Zorch's 25th Anniversary. The show was subsequently
released as a live album.
Nought
Hypnotique was the keyboardist with sonic terrorists Nought
from 2000 - 01. She promoted their debut album 'Nought' with
extensive gigging in the UK and Germany and a BBC session
for John Peel.
Now
Hypnotique briefly joined the Now collective in 2001, adding
insane sounds to their epic Kraut rock jams.
