Switched On...In Conversation with Bob Moog
Switched On met 70-year-old synthesizer guru Dr. Bob Moog
- the inventor of the trademark Moog synthesizer now enjoying a
cult revival.
In Part 1, we discuss his instruments which electrified the
sound of popular music in the 60s and 70s, his philosophies of sound
synthesis, and his musical life journey which included working with
Raymond Scott and Wendy Carlos. Features interviews
with Jean-Jacques Perrey, Gershon Kingsley, and Keith
Emerson.
In Part 2 hear classic to trashy moog music.
Since
the recording of this interview with Bob Moog, recorded in May
2004, we at Switched On were saddened to hear of the
death of Dr. Moog on August 22nd, 2005 who had a four month
battle against a brain tumour. Bob changed the 20th century
in so many ways - by changing the sounds around us. We were
greatly honoured to have met Bob and for the generosity and
time he gave us in this insightful and in-depth interview with
this engineering guru who modestly called himself "just
an engineer geek", but his legions of worldwide fans know
he was far more -he was an innovator and a genius. All the Switched
On radio shows are dedicated to the memory of Bob.
